Why schedule maintenance before Florida summer?

Pre-summer service gives you time to correct a weak capacitor, clogged drain or dirty coil before long runtimes begin. It also avoids some of the scheduling pressure that arrives with the first sustained heat.

In Hernando County, pollen, oak debris, humidity and frequent operation all affect equipment. Maintenance is inspection and cleaning—not a guarantee against failure.

What should a tune-up include?

A credible checklist covers filter condition, temperature split, blower and outdoor coil condition, condensate drainage, thermostat operation and accessible electrical measurements.

Ask for readings or photos when repairs are proposed. Vague statements such as ‘the system is old’ are not a diagnosis.

  • Inspect and clear condensate drainage
  • Check accessible electrical connections and capacitor readings
  • Inspect indoor and outdoor coil condition
  • Confirm airflow and temperature change
  • Review thermostat and heat-pump operation

What can homeowners maintain?

Replace filters as they load, keep return grilles clear and trim vegetation away from the outdoor unit without bending fins. Pouring chemicals into drains or opening electrical panels is not routine homeowner work.

After storms, look for branches, standing water or visible damage around the condenser. Leave refrigerant and electrical testing to qualified technicians.

How often should a Florida AC be serviced?

Annual professional maintenance is a common baseline; some high-use, older or warranty-covered systems may benefit from twice-yearly checks. Follow the manufacturer’s requirements and your actual operating conditions.

Filter intervals are not universal. Pets, renovations, occupancy and filter depth matter more than a calendar printed on the package.

Does maintenance lower humidity?

Maintenance can restore airflow and coil performance when dirt or drainage is interfering, but it cannot correct every humidity problem. Oversizing, duct leakage and control strategy may require separate evaluation.

If indoor humidity stays high, record thermostat readings and comfort patterns. Ask the contractor to assess runtime, airflow and infiltration before selling an accessory.
